"Spotlight" webpage updated and expanded!
I’ve updated my website and made my “Spotlight on an Artist” overview page current. It now includes the spotlight articles from the last few years— on Wendy Artin, David Parfitt, and Richard Thorn (all of which were missing)— but, in addition, I’ve added new material to each of those three blog posts, as well as the old 2015 Sergei Temerev “Spotlight”. Each has 1-2 new videos added in. It’s great stuff! :) If you read the articles back when they originally came out (in 2017-2020) or if you’re a new reader, it’s worth checking them out (again)! Hahahaha.
Additionally, if you’ve not read this series before, I have articles on a variety of other artists whose work I love— Igor Mosiychuk, Sergei Temerev, Endre Penovac, Ping Long, etc. There’s hours worth of good reading and video watching to be discovered there. You can always manually navigate to the Overview page as well. To do this, just hover over “Blog” in the header, and click on “Spotlight On An Artist” in the pulldown menu.
All of them are, IMO, fantastic artists. Just world class. And there’s lots to learn from their different approaches and mentalities. Of course, who doesn’t like watercolor eye candy? And yet, even more, studying the work of artists you love, and taking the time to assess how they do what they do, and why they do what they do, is a compelling learning tool. I call it “reading the tea leaves” when I’m teaching, because you have to assess what remains after the water has dried up. It’s a way of thinking that applies to your own work, as well as to the work of others.
